VETERANS
DAY PROGRAM
11 November 2010 The cadets hosted their ninth annual Veterans Day Program in the gymnasium on Thursday, November 11th, 10:30 a.m. Over 800 of the 900-plus student body was in attendance. The 50 minute program began with an inspirational video that clearly showed the student body why we were celebrating Veterans Day. Following the beginning video, a nine-person color guard carrying the national and state flags and the five service flags marched across the gym floor, positioning themselves for the presentation and posting of the colors. The school's marching band played the national anthem. Veterans that work at Emerald High School were honored along with visiting veterans from the community. Using powerpoint slides, a well-structured POW/MIA empty chair ceremony was done. Before the guest speaker, cadets read a poem, a history of veterans day, the president's veterans day proclamation, and a cadet sang America the Beautiful. Our guest speaker was South Carolina House of Representative Lewis "Gene" Pinson. The program concluded with a powerpoint presentation that incorporated the armed service medley. |
